PLUR Story: Into The Sky By Transcender Ralph Day

Into The Sky

By Transcender: Ralph Day

I had just been separated from the military, ending a career I thought I was going to dominate at; being a Loadmaster in the U.S. Air Force.  I was the kid who’d never failed at anything and yet, I had failed hard. So, in the summer of 2013, right after my family reunion, I packed up everything I owned, (which conveniently fit into my 2010 Chevy Camaro) and drove to Las Vegas to start a new life.

The story of my connection with Electronic Dance Music (EDM) runs parallel to my coming of age story. It all started in 2010 when I was still in the military. I had just completed basic military training and my roommate at the time introduced me to Swedish House Mafia. I loved the song “One” so much, in fact, I didn’t even know what to do with myself. Experiencing the driving beat, high-energy and of course, all the “feels” was when I officially made the jump into electronic music and I was in heaven.

From there, I explored further into the world of electronic beats and made the discovery of Otto Knows, Porter Robinson, Kap Slap, Deadmau5, and Skrillex. I listened to other music of course, but I just kept coming back to EDM. Over the course of the next few years, I discovered more artists and realized just how deep the connection of the EDM scene really was. I took a five day road trip to Vegas and while on the road to start my new journey, I became intimately familiar with the likes of Tiesto, Tritonal, Dada Life, and others. Looking back, it was all foreshadowing the soundtrack of my new beginning, to say the least.

My start in Vegas was sort of rocky. I moved in with my uncle and the bills just kept piling up. After a failed attempt of working as a nightclub promoter, I found a job at Home Depot and enjoyed the fact that they carried glow sticks in bulk. After living in Vegas for two months, I hadn’t been able to enjoy the immense nightlife and EDM scene that the city has to offer, so after receiving my first paycheck, I decided to see one of the many A-list DJ’s spin at a local club. It just so happened that Dada Life was playing at the Hakkasan Nightclub one weekend and it was a no-brainer. I immediately bought my ticket and was on the way to see my first headliner.

After spending the rest of my paycheck on glow sticks, which were on sale at work, I brought a pack with me to the Dada Life show thinking it would be a great way to meet people. This actually lead to a surprising turn of events.
