GRiZ Rides a New Wave on Bangers[1].Zip

Bangers[1].Zip – EP by GRiZ

GRiZ, the Colorado-based DJ famous for blending electronic music with elements, has had quite the year. In May, he dropped his first major release in two years with Ride Waves. Shortly after, he released “Supa Fly” with Boogie T which has already proven to be a hit at festivals. Now, GRiZ returns with an EP that reportedly marks the beginning of new releases between now and the fall.

The three-song collection is a slight departure from Ride Waves. This EP features some bass-heavy beats- a style that GRiZ seemed to shy away from on his sixth studio album. This project is a must-listen for any EDM fan.

Here is a track-by-track breakdown of the project:

Track One – “Voodoo” (feat. SUPERLOVE)

GRiZ opens up this EP with a bass-y ode to reggae. SUPERLOVE’s infectious feature really complements the bouncy nature of this track. The drop at 2:21 particularly caught me off guard. This switch-up truly brought the song to another level.

Track Two – “No Bad Trips”

This track is one that would have fit right in on previous albums Ride Waves or Good Will Prevail. With no vocals (samples or otherwise), the song features frantic electronic elements mixed in with a groovy saxophone. Good vibes all around.

Track Three – “Ice Cream”

The final track of this project has caught the attention of listeners due to samples from Cardi B’s “Drip” and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Da Ali G Show. However, GRiZ’s impressive production chops on this track should not be overlooked. This song is a true dubstep banger with twists and turns that keep listeners on their toes throughout.
