A Father & Daughter Bond Over Their Love Of EDM

My relationship with my daughter Liz was always special. From the day she was born, she was daddy’s little girl. Liz being born made me want to be a better man and change a lot of my ways so that I could be the best father I could be for her. We have always had a very open and honest relationship, and I always told her; “I’m your dad first then your friend.” Because of that we are best friends today.

I battled some demons in my life, but I am proud to say that I am now clean and sober for the past 20 months. I bring this up because I was looking for an outlet other than a 12 step program, and I found it in EDM! It has truly opened up the floodgates for me and my daughter to bond and enjoy life together. It’s been such an amazing journey and has brought us to the highest of highs as people, as well as father and daughter.

In 2013, I actually went to my first few electronic dance music events (Electric Daisy Carnival and Nicky Romero) without her because she had prior engagements she had to attend. Each time, I would leave the event on a high pink cloud and I couldn’t wait to get home to talk to her about the show. The love the people showed me and the acceptance they showed me (being an older guy) was heartwarming. I felt a part of something. I told her I couldn’t wait for her and I to experience a festival together, because it was going to be so special. Boy, I had no idea what I was in for.
