The Freestylers Talk Dude, Where’s My Car?

By Melissa Mallin

Can you give a brief background of who you both are and how you met?

We were signed to the same record company, but as two separate recording artists and we used to meet up at their studios. We discovered that we had a mutual love for the similar types of music and food (laughs), which is always a good starting point. Matt had this idea and it just kind of snowballed from there. The rest is history.

What’s the journey been like from where you started to where you are now?

It’s been a long hike and we still have many miles left to go!

You started making tracks in the mid- 90’s and released your first two albums “We Rock Hard” and “Pressure Point.” How has your music progressed over time?

The sound and style of our music still has a definitive thread, but the technology that’s available now has enhanced what we’re able to do that much better.

You’re music has been featured in major films such as Zoolander and Dude, Where’s My Car. How did that happened and what was that like for you guys?

It comes down to having a very good synch department at our publishers, who were able to get our music in these films. To be honest, we didn’t take much notice at the time because, funnily enough, we happened to be on tour in Australia. It was on one of our days off that we went to see this movie called “Dude Where’s My Car.” At one point, this song comes on and I’m thinking to myself,  “wait, hold on. I recognize this bit of music!” It was funny because we didn’t even know they’d used our track, “ Here We Go.” We were even sad enough to stay and watch until the end credits, just so we could see our names come up!
