Martin, this question is for you. You’re only 18 years old and are one of the biggest names in the EDM industry. What do you think are the disadvantages of starting your career so young? Do you ever feel like you’re missing out on certain experiences?

Garrix: One of the disadvantages is that I’m away from home a lot. I don’t really think of the disadvantages because it has opened so many opportunities. I get to travel the world doing what I love to do and meet amazing new people. I get to make people happy doing what I love to do as well. There are of course some disadvantages, but I don’t even think about them.

What does a typical day/ week look like for you guys?

Tiesto: It’s crazy, I mean, yesterday we crashed a boat into David Guetta’s house because we forgot to put the brakes on (laughs)! We were actually making a joke going into his house and then… I mean that was one day. Then the next day you play in front of 60,000 people. It’s never the same. Every day is so different, which is what makes it so beautiful.

What are three things most people don’t know about you?

Garrix: One thing most people don’t know about me is that I actually don’t like gaming, I don’t like watching TV, and I’m a super big computer nerd, but only when it comes to music, not gaming or anything like that. And, I love windsurfing.

Tiesto: Hm… People know everything about me (laughs).

What three things does someone in the industry need in order to be successful?

Garrix: Motivation. The most important thing is to set a goal and to work as hard as possible to get to that. Be creative.

Tiesto: Having drive is very important. Creativity, originality, and putting your own emotion into it. You can’t just be like “Oh, I want to be like him so I’m going to make the same music.” You have to come up with your own style. Be innovative.
